Daiana Thompson

Daiana has joined Martin & Company with over 30 years of experience in the insurance industry, having worked at leading major industry global insurance companies.

Daiana experience includes working with Comprehensive Medical, Life, AD&D, LTD, Vision, Dental, Travel and supplemental coverages in both group and individual markets, along with student health plans. Her work entailed drafting contracts and ensuring state compliance for all types of life and health products.

Daiana’s last position was at MetLife where she managed the Contract Development and Compliance unit which produced group coverage for expatriate and inpatriate employees.  She also brings experience in state reporting, and legislative review.

Daiana resides in Claymont, DE with her husband and pets, and enjoys living the ocean life.

Doug Swearingen

Doug joins Martin & Company in a new role as Compliance Officer and has over 30 years of experience in the Property & Casualty side of the Insurance Industry.  He began his insurance career as an Actuarial Analyst for the Ohio Department of Insurance by reviewing all rate filings submitted to the department.

During his career, he has been responsible for:

  • Regulatory reviews of rate filings
  • Working closely with multiple mid-sized, regional insurers as a Senior Consultant by submitting rate, rule, and form filings on their behalf
  • Managing staffs of analysts in the implementation of rates and forms in Legacy systems
  • Managing and developing compliance staffs in program implementations, state filings, and compliance research

Doug graduated from Ohio State University where he also played baseball.  After graduating, he was drafted by the Seattle Mariners where he spent a little over three years in their minor league system.

He enjoys spending time with his wife, Rose, their four grown children and each of their spouses, and five grandchildren.

Laura Lemke

Laura joined Martin & Company in 2021, as a Senior State Filing Analyst. Laura has over 30 years of experience in the insurance industry, most recently with W.R. Berkley Corporation, and prior to that with American Association of Insurance Services (AAIS) and GuideOne.  She has experience preparing, submitting, and maintaining form, rate, and rule filings for both commercial and personal lines of business, as well as reviewing ISO, NCCI, AAIS and various independent bureau circulars.  Laura also has a strong product development and compliance background and familiar with the UCAA application process for company licensing. Laura has taken various insurance courses, earning her ACP designation, and has been an active member of the Association of Insurance Compliance Professionals (AICP), including two terms as chapter secretary, and has attended many conferences.

Laura lives in Des Plaines, Illinois with her husband Rick.  She has two grown children (Ricky and Kaitlynn) and a grandson (Jase).

Julidden Smith

Prior to joining the M&C team Julidden was a Corporate Compliance Analyst with State National Insurance Company (SNIC), an operating brand of the Markel Corporation, a Fortune 500 holding company. Julidden’s was responsible for all company licensing including handling UCAA amendments, primary applications, and expansion applications. She was also responsible for annual filings required by State Departments of Insurance, State Financial Divisions, and Secretary of State. Prior to her insurance career she has 15+ years banking experience with a background in operations and compliance.

Julidden holds a Bachelors degree in Business Administration/Management and an MBA from Florida Institute of Technology. Julidden resides in Mississippi with husband Dontay and 2 children. She enjoys spending time with family, home improvement projects, and traveling.

Ally Schell

Ally began her insurance career at M&C playing a key role in supporting our OneView State Filing Management Solution platform. Noticing her organization skills and her ability to learn the business quickly Ally moved over to the State Filing Team assisting Senior Analysts with their state submissions. Ally is also a key member of our Company Licensing team handling many aspects of Primary and Expansion Applications, as well as Corporate Amendments. She is also very familiar with the UCAA application process.

​Ally graduated from Cabrini University with a Business Management degree. She currently resides outside of Philadelphia, PA. In her free time, she enjoys going outside and hitting softballs and playing with her 2 dogs.

Sonja A. Rodebaugh

Sonja is the Vice President and Director of Compliance. She began her insurance career in 1985 on the Property and Casualty Underwriting side of the industry and transitioned into Compliance in 1992. Responsibilities throughout her career have included: 

•    establishing, developing and overseeing successful compliance and state filing departments; 

•    working closely with Insurers, Managing General Agents and Program Administrators to develop new/revised products; 

•    program & product development; 

•    state rate, rule and form filings; 

•    bureau circular monitoring; 

•    overseeing various licensing responsibilities;

•    developing and implementing procedures and best practices; 

•    performing system and underwriting audits. 

•    Company Licensing / UCAA application. 

In addition, Sonja has been very involved in coordinating the Compliance and Underwriting aspects of insurance requirements in various policy issuance and rating systems. She has been instrumental in developing new and innovative technology for tracking and monitoring rate, rule and form filings as well as Bureau Circulars.  Experience across all Commercial lines of business including Businessowners, Cyber, Inland Marine / Non-Filed Inland Marine, Professional Lines, Property, Transportation and Workers Compensation.

Current member of Target Markets Program Administrators Association (TMPAA) and Association of Insurance Compliance Professionals (AICP). She was previously the President of the AICP Great Lakes Chapter.  She has been a panel speaker at various Conferences including AICP, TMPAA, as well as a Speed-to-Market Seminar.

Juli Frank

Juli began her career in the insurance industry at NCMIC Group, Inc. in 2001, holding various positions within the compliance department with a focus on commercial property and casualty regulatory compliance.  Juli has been responsible for medical malpractice and professional liability product development as well as preparing, submitting, and maintaining form, rate, and rule filings across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands. 

Juli has worked closely with senior management, underwriting, customer service, information systems, marketing, actuarial, and accounting through product development and implementation, system testing, review of marketing materials, regulatory research, and competitor comparisons.  She also has experience organizing and assembling documentation for state insurance department financial and market conduct examinations and organizing and submitting rate history data and summaries for annual reinsurance renewals.  Juli has prepared and submitted business entity filings and renewals and has been active in RPG registration and maintenance.

Juli holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Iowa State University.  Juli resides in Earlham, Iowa, with her husband Luke and their four children.
