Hannah Janney

Hannah joined Martin & Company in 2023, bringing with her over twenty years of P&C ratemaking and rate filing experience in commercial lines (property, liability, auto, workers compensation, umbrella/excess) and personal lines (home, auto, umbrella), over fifteen years of experience in predictive modeling, and over five years of experience in reserving.  Her work has spanned product types from reference to proprietary and sizes from small businessowners to large commercial package and monoline. 

As Actuarial & Modeling Manager for Merchants Insurance Group, Hannah led development, rate filing, systems implementation, and post-launch monitoring efforts for new predictive model-based tiering and rating plans across all product lines.  Her career mission has been to make predictive modeling accessible to the small/medium insurance organization or product.  To this end, she has assembled a toolbox of “Small Data” methods that minimize data size requirements and implementation costs while maximizing lift. 

Hannah has earned the CSPA (Certified Specialist in Predictive Analytics) designation from the Casualty Actuarial Society and a Master’s degree in Applied Statistics from Rochester Institute of Technology.  She is currently pursuing the ACAS designation.

In her free time, Hannah enjoys hiking (or snowshoeing, depending on the season).  She resides in Buffalo, NY.  

Kevin Cleary

Kevin Cleary joined Martin & Company with over 28 years of pricing and reserving experience. Kevin’s experience covers Personal Auto, Commercial Auto, Homeowners, Commercial Property, Commercial General Liability, Workers Compensation, Professional Liability, Construction Defect and Asbestos/Environmental lines.

Kevin’s pricing experience includes developing new product offerings, territorial indications, creating GLM models, responding to DOI questions and attending rate hearings.  

Kevin’s reserving background includes extensive SQL work, working with internal and external auditors to comply with SOX requirements and communicating results to senior management.

Kevin is the father of five children and lives in Naples Florida.  He enjoys most sports including basketball, volleyball, pickleball and pool.

Nick Carey

Nick began his insurance career in 2014 on the Property & Casualty side of the industry and spent eight years working for a carrier in a pricing role, focusing on Professional and Personal lines. He has extensive experience with composing actuarial support for rate and rule filings countrywide (incl. states like CA, FL, WA, MA), including responding to objections and researching competitor filings for support. He has also helped develop and introduce products (including development of rating plans) and has performed various actuarial analyses over the course of his career.

Nick holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from the University at Buffalo and has the MAAA and ACAS actuarial designations. He, his wife Trish, and daughters Gwendolyn and Nicolette reside just outside of Philadelphia in King of Prussia, PA.

Ramona Lee

Ramona Lee joined Martin & Company with over 26 years regulatory experience. As a regulator in Iowa and Pennsylvania, she testified and presented to the legislature, the industry, and consumers regarding Medical Professional Liability, Workers’ Compensation, and Personal Lines insurance. She determined the security requirements for entities which are self-insured for Workers’ Compensation. She opined on property and casualty reserves, rate filings, new products, changes in the marketplace, and proposed law changes. Ramona is an Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society, a member of the American Academy of Actuaries, and a Professional Risk Manager with the Professional Risk Managers’ International Association.

Ramona lives in Wallagrass, Maine. She is an avid supporter of animal rescue organizations and has an adopted greyhound and a rescued cat. On weekends she enjoys community activities and outdoor adventures with her family and friends.

Carrie Najarian

Carrie has been in the life and health insurance industry for over 20 years in the Actuarial, Operations, and Marketing divisions of two Fortune 500 companies.  She started her actuarial career at Transamerica in Product and Risk Management where she provided financial analysis, model evaluation, marketing profitability, competitive intelligence, experience reporting, rate filings and rate increase support for life and health product development.  At GE Financial Assurance, she supported Actuarial Financial Reporting and Product Development prior to transitioning to the Marketing department as a Channel Actuary for GEFA Direct.  She provided financial expertise and analysis of key financial services products including annuities, life & health insurance, DBL, and club products to support direct marketing campaigns and negotiations.  Carrie returned to Transamerica to support life and health Pricing and Product Development before becoming a Marketing Director for the Affinity Marketing Group.  She developed the annual budgets, profitability reporting, financial opportunity evaluations, and recommendations to support marketing investment decisions.  She later managed business decision support, financial reporting and analysis for both the Operations and Direct Marketing units.  Carrie has built strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills throughout her career. 

Carrie graduated summa cum laude from the Pennsylvania State University with a B.S. in Mathematics and Actuarial Science.  She resides in Bucks County, Pennsylvania where she enjoys spending time with her family and has been recognized for her community involvement with the local elementary school, travel soccer club, and Boy Scout troop.

Raissa Schickel

Raissa has over 17 years of P&C industry experience and joined Martin & Company in 2012.  Raissa’s pricing experience spans numerous lines of business and products including Homeowners, Property, Personal Auto, Commercial Auto, Inland Marine, General Liability, Package, Crime, Commercial Output Policy (COP), Businessowners (BOP), Professional Liability, Management Liability, Workers Compensation, Excess & Umbrella, Cyber, and Aircraft.

Prior to joining M&C, Raissa worked at Philadelphia Insurance Companies, AAA Mid-Atlantic, and Signature Consulting Solutions.  She’s been involved with all parts of the rate filing process from product development, competitor analysis, and strategic planning with leadership to rate indications and DOI objections.  Raissa also has experience developing unpaid claims estimates.

Raissa holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame and a Master of Science degree (with Academic Distinction) in Actuarial Science from Temple University.  She is one exam away from her ACAS designation.  She lives in Philadelphia and enjoys spending as much outdoor time as possible with her spouse and daughter and their family dog.

Arnie Rippener

Arnie has 30 years of experience in the insurance industry, having worked with Group Health as well as Property & Casualty lines of business. He is an Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society.

Arnie began his career in pricing roles with Group Accident & Health products, after which he moved to the Property Casualty side of the business where he held Personal Lines pricing roles at CNA Insurance Company, Allstate as well as USAA. Immediately prior to joining Martin & Company, he was involved in reserving for various lines of P&C business, including Cyber & Data Security, General Liability, Excess Workers Compensation, Commercial Umbrella and Travel. Arnie also has experience with other lines of business which includes High Value HO, Personal Auto and various Specialty Lines, Commercial Auto, Commercial Property, Inland Marine Surety, Travel, AD&D, Equine and Workers’ Compensation.

Arnie has a Bachelor of Science degree from Northern Illinois University. He currently resides in Valparaiso IN, where he enjoys spending time with friends and family.

Katy Blomgren

Katy has over 17 years of experience in the health insurance industry. Katy began her actuarial career at Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield in 2001 where she spent 5 years working on reserves, financial statements, forecasting, and individual and small group rate filings. She then transitioned into Large Group commercial business where she was responsible for managing the day-to-day actuarial accountabilities for the Large Group market including base rates, network and area pricing, stop loss pricing, and ensuring large groups were compliant with state and federal mandates. Katy then moved into the Associate Actuary role where she spent over 10 years consulting with account managers, product development, and senior level executives regarding group specific plan designs, employee contributions, and health and pharmacy product offerings using various models that she created to help these groups understand and mitigate trend within their employee populations. Katy also has experience with Work Comp filings, including Large Deductible, Retro and Dividend plans.

Katy is a 2003 graduate of Drake University in Des Moines, IA with a Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science and Accounting.  She earned her ASA designation from the Society of Actuaries in 2012 and is working on her final exam needed to earn her FSA designation.  She currently resides in Cumming, IA where she enjoys spending time with her husband James and their two children.

John Butel

John has over 19 years of experience in the Property & Casualty Insurance industry. He is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. 

Prior to joining Martin & Company, John was a pricing actuary with Nationwide Insurance.  John has extensive experience in all parts of the rate review process, from rate indications and product design through filing approval and implementation. Lines of business and product experience includes Homeowners, Personal Auto, Telematics, Property and Commercial General Liability, Commercial Auto, General and Professional Liability, Equipment Breakdown, Pet Health and Accident.

John has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Kansas State University. John is married, with two children. He lives in West Des Moines, Iowa.

Brian Elliott

Brian is an Associate of the Casualty Actuarial Society and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries and has 29 years of experience in the Property & Casualty Industry.

Prior to joining Martin & Company, Brian worked primarily in pricing roles at EMC Insurance Group and Pharmacists Mutual Insurance Group. He has considerable experience in Workers Compensation, including pricing large deductibles, but his background also includes working with many other lines of business including Commercial Property, General Liability, Businessowners, Commercial Auto, Professional Liability, Homeowners and Personal Auto.

Brian has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Iowa State University. He resides in Waukee, Iowa.
