Katy joined Martin & Company in 2017 with over 17 years of experience in the health insurance industry. Katy began her actuarial career at Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield in 2001 where she spent 5 years working on reserves, financial statements, forecasting, and individual and small group rate filings. She then transitioned into Large Group commercial business where she was responsible for managing the day-to-day actuarial accountabilities for the Large Group market including base rates, network and area pricing, stop loss pricing, and ensuring large groups were compliant with state and federal mandates. Katy then moved into the Associate Actuary role where she spent over 10 years consulting with account managers, product development, and senior level executives regarding group specific plan designs, employee contributions, and health and pharmacy product offerings using various models that she created to help these groups understand and mitigate trend within their employee populations. Katy also has experience with workers' compensation reviews, which is a natural transition from the health side of the industry.
Katy is a 2003 graduate of Drake University in Des Moines, IA with a Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science and Accounting. She earned her ASA designation from the Society of Actuaries in 2012 and is working on her final exam needed to earn her FSA designation. She currently resides in Cumming, IA where she enjoys spending time with her husband James and their two children.
