Brian began his actuarial career in 1991 with Reliance Insurance Company in Philadelphia, PA. During his six years at Reliance, he served in various capacities including commercial lines rate making, rate filing support, specialty program pricing and program reserving. In November of 1997, he joined Guy Carpenter & Company as a reinsurance pricing actuary supporting the Treaty Reinsurance Program. In this capacity, he was responsible for maintaining and creating various excess of loss pricing models and their underlying parameters. Over the next 15 years, he would perform numerous additional functions for clients including loss ratio, trend and cost/benefit analysis, reinsurance structure and loss mitigation evaluations, industry data collection initiatives, probabilistic modeling, and Enterprise Risk Management consulting. His line of business experience includes Homeowners, Auto, Commercial Multi-Peril, Cyber & Technology, Workers’ Compensation, Accident & Health, and Medical Malpractice. Brian joined Martin & Company in December 2013. His responsibilities include rate filing support, new product development, rate-level reviews, and industry research. Additionally, he has been a guest presenter at various industry conferences including AICP and CHART.
Mr. Fernandes is a 1991 graduate of Lebanon Valley College in Annville, PA with a Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science and earned his ACAS designation from the Casualty Actuarial Society in May 1999. He is a life-long resident of Chester County, PA and currently resides in West Chester with his wife Karen and their two daughters. He participates in adult sports leagues, has competed in several triathlons, and is an amateur genealogist.
